What Is ABA?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) seeks to produce changes in behavior. ABA is the most common therapy for autism, and some of the strategies it enforces include, but are not limited to, positive and negative reinforcement, real-life teaching scenarios, and generalization. Real-life Teaching Scenarios:
This strategy focuses on placing your child in the environment they are learning about. For example, if you want to teach your child how to socialize at a park, taking them to a park puts them in a natural environment. Although this strategy isn’t always deemed the easiest, it can be highly effective if executed properly.
Generalizations:
Generalization is the ability to apply a skill in different circumstances. Why is this important you may ask? This strategy promotes independence, and your child can depend on their abilities rather than relying on other materials or persons.
